"Shito saved my life in Puerto Rico"

…and why you need to purchase a travels size Shito(Hot sauce) for your travels

Usually, I wouldn't believe in the saying 'once bitten, twice shy", however, my two week stay in Peru and Colombia showed me "shege". Everything in both countries were perfect except the food. Colombia did have some of the best wings, Peru, ofcourse, had some of the best rice dishes, but as an african girl with its palate, I prayed endlessly that my two week stay would be over, then, I could head back home to eat "my food". It came to my realization that many countries offer hot sauce as an option instead of being part of the meal, and even with that, it is vinegary and tangy with just a little kick of heat, which does not do justice to the purpose for which it is intended.

Recently, I visited Puerto Rico and stayed there for 2 weeks. I had heard many interesting things about the country and this was a good opportunity for me to couch my own story of the country. Having themed this trip as "She's Gotta Have It" with reference to Spike Lee's show bearing same phrase, I was in for the food, the people and all that there was to it.

Taking notes from my experience from Peru and Colombia, I made sure to carry at least an 8oz of our infamous Shito (hot sauce), with me. Because it is perfectly protected with a lug cap, there was not spillage or anything of that sort, even when it laid in any position in my bag. Having cried multiple times during my trip to Peru because most of the meals were missing the "wow" factor, I felt the need to not commit that mistake again. I also knew that carrying one factor of my palate with my will keep me closer to home.

My first 2 days in San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital was incredible. Aside the country being surrounded with beautiful beaches as well as Boricuas (People from Puerto Rico), the smell of Alcapurias(root fritter), and Bacalaitos (Cod fish fritters) just got me ready to delve into the country's gastronomy. Hence, my first stop was Pinones; a coastal area located in the northeastern part of Puerto Rico, near the city of San Juan. It's known for its beautiful beaches, diverse ecosystems, and vibrant local culture. One of the highlights of Piñones is its vibrant culinary scene. The area is famous for its "kioskos," which are small food stands or shacks offering a variety of traditional

Puerto Rican dishes. Visitors can indulge in dishes like Alcapurrias (deep-fried fritters filled with meat or seafood), Bacalaitos (codfish fritters), and fresh seafood prepared with local flavors and spices. I ordered one of each of these infamous fritters and dipped that into the Shito to give it that extra kick and flavor. It stroke the perfect balance between heat and flavor. It delivered a noticeable spiciness that stimulated my taste buds without overwhelming them. The heat was well-distributed throughout my palate, allowing me to experience the full range of flavors. So basically, there was a "nuptial" between all the ingredients on my tongue. Click link to purchase https://www.afrofoods.online/product-page/shito

Throughout my stay in San Juan, I will eat every meal with the Shito, and this may sound a little extreme but this sauce saved my life! I was never home sick. The sauce paired perfectly with every meal: from the rice dishes, meats, the mofongo, all the fritters, and even the salads. I was never worried about preservation as the

Shito remained fresh even without refrigeration all because of the carefully selected ingredients used in its preparation and its intentional packaging. In the end, I reckoned that my stay in Peru and Colombia would have been more enjoyable if only I had carried just an 8oz jar of Shito with me. click link to purchase. https://www.afrofoods.online/product-page/shito
